John Michael Turturro (né le 28 février 1957) est un acteur, scénariste et réalisateur italo-américain, connu pour son engagement dans le mouvement du cinéma indépendant. Il a joué dans plus de soixante longs métrages et a souvent collaboré avec les frères Coen, Adam Sandler et Spike Lee. Il a débuté sa carrière d’acteur à l’écran au début des années 1980 et s’est rapidement fait remarquer par la critique grâce au film indépendant *Five Corners* (1987). Turturro s’est fait connaître du grand public grâce au film de Lee *Do the Right Thing* (1989) ainsi qu’aux films des frères Coen Miller’s Crossing (1990) et Barton Fink (1991), pour lequel il a remporté le prix d’interprétation masculine au Festival de Cannes. Parmi ses rôles suivants, on peut citer Herb Stempel dans Quiz Show (1994), Jesus Quintana dans *The Big Lebowski* (1998) et The Jesus Rolls (2020), Pete Hogwallop dans O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), Seymour Simmons dans la série de films Transformers, et il devrait incarner Carmine Falcone dans *The Batman*. En 2016, il a tenu le rôle principal d’un avocat dans la mini-série de HBO The Night Of et a eu un rôle récurrent dans la mini-série The Plot Against America en 2020. Lauréat d’un Emmy Award, Turturro a également été nominé pour quatre Screen Actors Guild Awards, deux Golden Globes et quatre Independent Spirit Awards. Il a réalisé Mac (1992), qui a remporté la Caméra d’or au Festival de Cannes, Illuminata (1998) et Romance and Cigarettes (2005).
