Matthew McConaughey, né Matthew David McConaughey le 4 novembre 1969 à Uvalde (Texas), est un acteur et producteur américain. Il perce en 1993 avec un rôle secondaire mémorable dans *Dazed and Confused* de Richard Linklater, qui devient son film culte. Il enchaîne avec des seconds rôles dans *Angels in the Outfield* (1994) et accède au statut de premier rôle dans le thriller juridique *A Time to Kill* (1996), adapté de John Grisham. Dans les années 2000, il s’impose comme tête d’affiche des comédies romantiques : *The Wedding Planner* (2001), *How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days* (2003), *Failure to Launch* (2006) et *Ghosts of Girlfriends Past* (2009). Il diversifie son registre avec *Frailty* (2002), *Sahara* (2005) et *We Are Marshall* (2006). Le tournant arrive dans les années 2010 avec la « McConaissance » : *The Lincoln Lawyer* (2011), *Bernie* (2011), *Killer Joe* (2011), *Mud* (2012), *Magic Mike* (2012) et surtout *Dallas Buyers Club* (2013), où son interprétation de Ron Woodroof lui vaut l’Oscar du meilleur acteur, le Golden Globe et le SAG Award. Il brille ensuite dans *The Wolf of Wall Street* (2013) de Scorsese, *True Detective* (saison 1, 2014, nomination Emmy) et *Interstellar* (2014) de Nolan. Ses rôles plus récents incluent *The Gentlemen* (2019), des doublages dans *Sing* (2016-2021) et *Kubo and the Two Strings* (2016). En 2025, il revient au cinéma avec *The Lost Bus* (sur Apple TV+, drame sur l’incendie de Camp Fire) et *The Rivals of Amziah King* (thriller criminel acclamé à SXSW, sortie large en 2026).
